Hamilton Black History Committee presents
the 14th Annual Rev. John C. Holland Awards Date: Saturday, February 6, 2010 Location: AFROSTORICA 2010! Parks Canada Grade 7 and 8 students are invited to explore local Black History as Parks Canada and various community partners, such as Griffin House National Historic Site, Stoney Creek Track and Field, Stewart Memorial Church, and Oakville Museum, present interactive workshops and learning experiences. $1.90/student
Leslie McCurdy’s Spirit of Harriet Tubman
Friday February 12, 7 pm at Parks Canada Discovery Centre (905-526-8409)
McCurdy’s powerful performance depicts the life story of Harriet Tubman - from her early years as a slave, through her work on the Underground Railroad, to her continued devotion to others in her later years. This performance will captivate and mesmerize.

Griffin House is a 19th century home that stands as a testament to the strength and bravery of black Canadians who sought freedom in Ontario.
Lawrence Hill

Author Lawrence Hill will read excerpts from his captivating, award-winning novel The Book of Negroes. After entertaining questions and queries, Mr. Hill will hold a book-signing session as guests mingle.
